Discussion on the psychosocial risks of platform work and presentation of the project to the Committee on Social Policy, Family and Care

On 1 December, we presented key psychosocial risks of platform work at a meeting of the Committee on Social Policy, Family and Care of the Government Council for Gender Equality, organised by the Gender Equality Department of the Office of the Government of the Czech Republic. The findings were presented by the project lead, Markéta Švarcová. Member of the Committee Hana Hašková also took part in the subsequent discussion, adding her remarks. We highlighted technostress, pressure for constant availability, the detachment of work from the body, micro-tasking, and algorithmic management, which influence access to work, income and performance evaluation, and strongly affect people with caregiving responsibilities. The discussion also deepened our dialogue with the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, which is preparing the transposition of the Platform Work Directive; we emphasised the risks of a minimalist transposition, particularly if the definition of algorithmic control remains unenforceable.
